I have now finished my IVA. Is it possible to open a bank account with one of my original creditors now the IVA is finished?

Congratulations on the completion of your IVA, it must be a huge relief.

I'm not sure of the answer to your question but im sure someone will be along shortly who could advise you.

Congratulations on completing your IVA.

I don't see any reason why not, once you have had your completion certificate, but it may be that they turn you down anyway as your rating will still be shot.

Your IVA will be on your credit file for 6 years from the day at was accepted, after that it will just disappear from the Insolvency Register.

I would say, if you are wanting to bank with one of your creditors then the only way you would stand a chance would be to wait till the 6 years is up.

I am sure somebody will correct me if i am wrong.

congratulations on completing the IVA.

Is there a reason why you want an account with one of your creditors??

It is possible that they would offer you a credit facility, but I would tend to err on the unlikely.

Thank you everybody for your responses! Its such a relief to have completed my IVA - its a very strange feeling being debt free for the first time in what seems like a very long time. I was also fortunate to be able to settle early :)

I was wanting to bank with HSBC as with my job I am moving all over the globe and they seem to be the best bank with international subsidiaries. However, saying that I mvoed to Dubai and was still in my IVA - HSBC opened me a bank account (even though they were a creditor) simply because they did not check with the UK and instantly offered a very very large loan and credit - which obviously i declined - i was surprised that there was no communication within the system.

Anyway - thanks again for your assisntance. Even though I have not posted much - the site has been an invaluable resource throughout my IVA.

mrs skint - I thought you are removed from the Insolvency Register when the Certificate of Completion has been issued & the Insolvency Service have been notified by the IP? I am aware it remains on the CRF for 6 years from date of IVA, but don't think you're on the Insolvency Register for the full 6 years?

Congratulations to buglet!

You are right MP1965 - it will disappear from the Insolvency Register shortly after completion.
