My IVA has just been approved and one of my creditors was my current account overdraft, I can no longer use that account, so can I open another bank account so I can pay in cheques as I am self employed and do you know where I could open one please.

Thanks

Coop cashminder account lets you pay cheques in and with that account you can pay cash and cheques in at the post office.

Hi Graham
Didn't your IP tell you to open a new one before the IVA was approved
It May have been easier?
I have opened 2 accounts with Halifax an easycash which you get no overdratft / cheque book etc but you do get a electron card and pay in and set up dd's but because i opened this before the IVA was approved we took a chance and applied for the full account and were accepted

Alot of poepl on here like the COOP cashminder - who seem to be ok with IVA'S -not sure what you get with it though
I'm sure someone will be able to tell you

Congratulations on your iva approval.
We opened a basic account with Yorkshire Bank, comes with a savings account and debit card, no credit checks, all she asked was if we were bankrupt (though I got the feeling that wouldn't be a problem either).
We've found them great so far.

The FSA has information about available bank accounts - follow this link

http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/HT ... _popup.htm

I am surprised though if - as Tamzin pointed out - your IP didn't mention this to you.

Congratulations for having your IVA accepted and good luck with it.

I would recommend the Co-op Cashminder account if anyone is looking for a basic account.

Opening a new bank account with a non- creditor was one of the first things I was advised to do.

I have 2 very basic bank accounts. One with Yorkshire and one with Halifax.
They both have internet banking and a debit card. Have never had a problem with either.

Congratulations from me as well.

I'm surprised that you weren't told to open a new account, but I do echo the others that the Co-op is a very good account.

Lots of people are happy with the Co-op account and always comes well recommended on this forum. I am with Natwest and have their Solo account which has never been a problem to me.
