Hi everyone, I hope yuo are all well
I've been looking online at some jobs as I may lose mine soon, and one of them had a basic salary of X, PLUS an annual clothing allowance of £2000. My question is, will the IVA take the clothing allowance from me too if I was to get it as the job is a faily high profile one and I would be meeting a lot of senior clients on a daily basis?
Many thanks guys
Nyu xx

Hi -I would think they'd let you keep the clothing allowance as its a necessity for your job. However, you may not be able to claim for any additional clothing allowance on your income & expenditure form.
I'm sure others will be along shortly to clarify.
Hope you don't lose you're job, but if you do hope you get the other one......if you see what I mean [;)]

I think that if you have the allowance, and need to spend it on clothes then you should be ok.
Speak to your IP and just clarify this.

I have to agree with the others. I would treat it like a mileage allowance for a car which is ignored but you are allowed some expenses for personal use. I think you should still be entitled to your normal clothing allowance in the IVA as this money is for professional wear and not jeans and t-shirt when you get home.

I would think as it's an allowance for part of your job role if you meet high profile clients you do need to look the part.

I agree, but I also think you should still get a normal allowance also as you will still need casual clothes.
I wish I had fought to get an allowance for make up , hair and larger clothes allowance as I have on a daily basis need to be smart, made up and presentable. I think i get £56 a month for me and 2 kids for clothes which is not good!!

I also agree, a condition of this role seems to be a certain level of appearance as a must, for which your employers will meet the cost via an allowance.
I don't think you would have anything to worry about on that score.
Regards.

Heck I hope my staff are not reading this or else they will be queueing up for handouts!!
The clothing allowance should not be taken into account for the purposes of the IVA. To be honest I have never had a client with a clothing allowance, so I guess this is not too common?

I often wish we had a uniform, no choice then what to wear in morning save a few tantrums for me!

I love it Lesley - I always used to spend ages sorting out what to wear. Don't need to now!
I do have to provide my own black trousers at the moment until they have decided exactly what we are having, but I just get the cheapie ones from Asda or Tesco and they are fine.

I would love it I know I would, I never know what to wear and with a limited wardrobe others around me always look smarter.

Ours is not the best uniform - polo shirts which aren't the best fit and are a horrible shade of green, but then I'm not paying for it so I put up with it!

Ours are cotton blouses and shirts - even got them in a few colours, but some of the girls still won't wear them. I wear mine when I'm in the office all day.
