Hi, have just set up the standing order for monthly payment and when on internet banking I have noticed that the reference for this is my surname followed by IVA, is this normal or even allowed as I thought it was private?

Is there no way of changing the name of it? If not, see if the bank will do it.
Hubby's didnt come up as that but i dont know if other peoples have.

Thanks, no it doesn't give you the option to amend anything. Worried if I contact the bank the will get a bit jumpy about us having an account.

There should be no problem with the bank if you owe them nothing.
I would just ask them to change it and explain to them how sensitive you are about it.

Its Nat West. They obviously know now and we don't owe them anything, but we would rather not have it advertised everywhere! Will contact them and ask them to change it. Can but try.

Well they have set up the standing orders straight away as only posted on Friday, so can only presume that they wouldn't have done that if they were gonna close the account. Like I say we don't owe them any money or have an overdraft and the account is always in credit so hopefully will be OK.[:(][:(]

Who is saying that the reference has to end in "IVA". Surely you can pick any reference you like, as this is for your own bank statements and no-one elses?

Mine certainly doesn't end in IVA. It's just a standing order to RBS and nothing else is mentioned.
