I applied and got one approved this evening so I'll be getting it in a few days. When money is put on there via paypal, how long does it take to credit the card?

It usually goes on by 1-2pm the next working day.

I have tried this up until about 10 O Clock at night.

Always been by 2pm next day for us, even when put on at 11.55pm

We've often had a late lunch waiting for 2pm so we can buy some food!

I may be being a bit dim here, but what is the advantage of these cards over the normal debit card from the bank?

This type of card is useful for people who have been unable to obtain a bank account or if their bank account does not offer a debit card.

They are also a good way to control your finances as you can only spend what is available you will not receive and over limit fees.

The only criteria in order to apply for a pre paid card is you need to be 18 or over.

The downside to the cards are that most providers will charge you a fee so it is worth shopping around if you are thinking of using one.

Paypal is brilliant, but if you have an O2 contract, theirs is even better.

I'm not sure if you can use them at Pay at Pump petrol stations though.

The one advantage is that you cannot go overdrawn as you can with a debit card.

I have just sent away for my paypal card. Can you use this anywhere it displays the visa sign?

I know Jan, and doesnt it feel good. Our printer/scanner has broke today and its as cheap to buy a new one. So going to save for one, you can get them really cheap. Kids need it for course work etc. Normally I would just have gone online to Argos, and used my Argos card, plus postage and have it delivered. tut tut !

Printers are dirt cheap these days - it's cheaper to replace one of them than buy new cartridges!

Helen ... Did you use it to book the P&O Ferry? Just wondering if you can use it online for short breaks online, cos you can get them cheaper than in the shops?

You may be able to, I suppose the thing would be to check on the site you are looking at to make sure.

If there is a problem, try phoning them. You might find that you can book over the phone with the card at the same rate as the internet if you explain what has happened.
