hi. I had a phone meeting yesterday to draft my proposal and the man said it will posted for me to read, check and sign. I was so relieved to be getting started sorting out our debts that i wasn't paying full attention. please could someone help by letting me know the procedure. what happens when i send my forms back? do i have another phone meeting or do i just get a date for a creditors meeting? the people at debt free direct are lovely and a lot more helpful and polite than i expected but i don't want to phone and ask them to repeat what they told me yesterday. I am so glad we started tackling this problem. i can feel myself relaxing and smiling a lot more. i feel so positive but i have no idea what to expect.

hey mags welcome to here.

firstly congrats on getting the ball rolling. which company are you using ?
normally the whole procedure takes about roughly 9 weeks-mine was 8.5 weeks UNLESS theres sticky things involved ie owning a business, property etc.

as you said youve had your phone meeting then normally the company will send you paperwork and i know in my case mels team gave me templates to use so i could inform my creditors that i was going for the iva then i had to send bank statements payslips etc in and like i said took roughly 8.5 weeks to creditors meeting which was dec 29th '08.

make sure youre happy with who youve chosen to represent you. im not trying to worry you but 5 years is the time you normally have an iva and that means you want 5 years of good service.

good luck and if youre unsure or need further advice then post !![:)]

Good luck mags, DFD are recommended and I'm sure Declan will be along on Monday if you have any queries.

Make sure that you check your proposal thoroughly before signing it, to make sure that everything is ok.

Once you have sent it back, then your meeting will be set up.

Good luck.

Hi Mags,

Excellent answer from FD [:)]...the important thing is to check the proposal when it comes through. Make sure the figures are correct and you are happy with allownces and expenditure.

You'll then return the form and send of required documents, payslips, bankstatements etc (just as FD said)

DFD will then confirm what your proposed monthly payments will be and advise you when your creditors meeting will be.

Declan from DFD posts on here, so rest assured any queires you have will get answered from the horses mouth so to speak, no offence Declan[:D]

brilliant, thank you. we sent all our paperwork, payslips and bank statements off last week. they received them on wednesday and phoned me friday to go over everything. i feel so much better about everything already. I know it will be hard while we wait for this to get approved, but i can't stop smiling. if i'm this happy just to be dealing with the problem, i'll be ecstatic in 5 years when its finished. i can't wait for the slate to be clean

It doesn't matter if you ask them six times to go through the stuff with you - ask! Vitally important that you undertand the terms of the IVA proposal back to front before committing

Hi Mags
I’ve only just picked this up.
As Julie mentioned, if you do have any queries regarding the proposal or what happens next, please do not hesitate to ask, as Melanie very rightly said, it is vitally important you understand everything that is happening.

Thanks
