Mr Rainbow's union have called a 4 day strike for after Easter..I guess I am right in assuming that we will just have to take the hit of the loss of earnings for those 4 days and tighten out belts even more than usual?

Hope a resolution can be found in time!

Hi
I guess you will, may be worth asking your IP for a reduced payment if you find it too difficult to make ends meet

Sorry to hear that AR, hope your IP is sympathetic if he/she needs to be x

I imagine they will say somehting along the lines of him choosing to strike and not go in, which is true...although I support his decision to go out. The terms and conditions Network Rail want to push through are pretty grim.

I don't think that IPs would be very sypathetic towards a reduction in payments due to industrial action. Perhaps your mortgage company or landlord might be more helpful, or why not ask if you can miss a council tax or electricity payment.

Worth a try I guess, although I doubt any of them will be any more sympathetic than our IP!
We will have to muddle through...timing couldn't be worse though as this will affect the pay packet before we get married.
I'm hoping some agreement can be reached via mediation, if the proposed changes go ahead we will be adversely affected- as will our creditors in all likelihood.

Presumably though, without industrial action there is the possibilty of less income or a job in later years of an IVA?

I doubt an IP/creditors would be bothered about that. It's what happens now that they are bothered about and I cannot see them being sympathetic to industrial action when it is down to the individual whether they go out or not.

What kind of shoddy advice is that, to suggest missing a PRIORITY payment like council tax or electricity in order to pay creditors in an IVA? [:0]

I think Melanie was making a point. If you asked your mortgage lender or the council for a break because you choose to strike then the answer will be no, so why should you be able to have a payment break from your IVA?

My point was made to highlight that people cannot always assume that the IVA payment is to be the first point of call when there are difficulties during a month. But thank you for your rude comments, and also to Skippy for sensibly noting the point I was making.

I am totally with Melanie and Skippy here.

People choose to strike, therefore they should expect to take the loss of earnings. How they cope with that is up to them.

Shoddy advice is never given by experts on this forum.

And there is no need for rude comments.

Hi
I think if your income reduces for whatever reason you need to explore all options and contacting your IP is certainly one of them.

This has the potential to be a hot potato [B)]. So all i will say is, whatever the outcome Angelrainbow-i hope you find a way to address the income problem.

I've never had to consider industrial action so cannot comment on that side but hope that things work out financially for you AR as we're all living frugally already whilst in an IVA x
