Evening everyone, hope you`re all fine. I`m composing my background statement, the thing is, I don`t have any hard luck stories or life changing events to blame for my debts, I just used too much easy credit when it was offered to fund holidays, home improvements and far too many restaurant meals, to name but a few reasons for my self inflicted downfall. I intend to state the fact that I simply spent far too recklessly as the reason for my arrival at financial meltdown, as I feel it`s only right to be honest. Would this approach to my background statement compromise the chance of a succesfull IVA application???

You are the same as most of us. We bought cars, had long distance holidays, bought furniture, computers etc.
Just say it like it is.

I dont think you need worry about a background statement swinging an IVA's success or not. If your IP doesnt like something in it they will let you know, just tell it like it is.

Exactly! You just need to tell the truth. We've all been there.

Hi. My statement was the same. I told them I overspent on silly things and it got out of control. My IP was happy enough with this and my IVA was approved. Good luck

In my experience these days creditors generally take little notice of the content of the background statement, so just be truthful and put the facts down as they actually happened and as you see your current situation.

How have you gone so far? I am in the same boat for exactly the same reason- I am now waiting for my welcome pack from Melanie and her team. Cannot wait to get the ball rolling as getting calls already due to missed payments. I am dreading what could happen if i do not get approved. Like you, I have got myself in this mess with credit card after credit card since freshers week at uni....

Melanie has an excellent reputation - there are not many of her proposals that are not approved.

On my background statement I put down the truth which was I had lost a lot of weight and brought a lot of clothes on store card and credit cards. Also decorated the house. The only thin g that could be counted as a sob story was that we brought a stair life for my husband!
my IP had no issues with my statement.
