Just asking this as its coming up again and again, why do self employed people have to have a face to face meet were as PAYE dont? is this set in stone or is it at the IP discretion.

Hi Stackerman,
I'm afraid it is set in stone. It is a legal requirement that you have to have a face to face.

It is part of the regulatory requirements but is pretty silly as it should be at the discretion of the IP. Each case is different whether employed or self employed and the decision on whether to meet should be decided on the complexity of the case and not on a person's job.
While it is good practice to meet with as many clients as possible it should not be mandatory particularly for a straightforward case and where the debtor does not feel the need for a meeting.

We never met our IP before the IVA was approved, but I am PAYE.
I also think it is silly Michael - it should all be sorted out over the phone and via email unless you want a face to face.

I just had my face to face meeting and I must say I am glad I did.
I found it really helpful as being self employed there are a few more issues to discuss ie tax etc.
This was much easier face to face than over the phone.

Personally I would have preferred a face to face meeting.I think its great if you get a chance to meet your IP.

Must admit that it didn't bother me at all, but then again I wasn't aware that we could do that.

I know if we had met hubby's IP prior to the IVA being set up, we would have gone with someone else!

It is definately not silly to hold a face to face meeting with self-employed clients - but in my professional opinion vital to the process of understanding my client's business and being able to advise accordingly.
I would not want to see these provisions changing to be frank.
