Hi All,

Am six months into my IVA, I recently cancelled Virgin and got sky tv although am now wanting to go back to Virgin for my Broadband.

They have done a credit check before they can confirm installation even though I am a previous customer who left two months ago.

Would they refuse me because of my IVA? Am I going to have the same problem with all providers?

Thanks

Paul

Hi there.

Ive had 2 broadband providers during my IVA, BT and currently TalkTalk.
No credit checks were done by either company & I had no problems. (other than BT being to expensive - hence the change to TT)

I think Ive heard Virgin just do a basic check to clarify thats its you n your address. Ive heard of them do a full check for broadband before.

Let us know how you get on.

Am I right in thinking that services like broadband do not do an full credit check as they can easily cut the service if payment isn't made?

I have never had an issue with getting mobile phone contract however when I tried to get broadband and lap top package I was refused dispite being the same company as my mobile contract.

I've changed to Sky during my IVA without a problem, so maybe each provider has different criteria? x

Glad you said that. I'm looking to go to SKY in the next couple of months as my Virgin "box" will not work soon because of them going on NAG3.
I was always under the assumption that they do a full credit check until I came on here and someone said that they just check that you live where you say you live (election role thing)!
SKY, you will be getting my call!!
Do you have to have a phone and broadband package with them though?

Jan's right, you don't have to have phone and broadband with Sky, although I have to say we've saved a fortune since we switched to them a couple of years ago.

I agree with Skippy I pay £40 per month for basic Sky package with one extra channel (£1) and phone and broadband. Not had a problem so far! x

We pay £5 for our broadband and £5 for the phone so we can get phone calls free at any time of the day.

We have just decided to change from BT to Virgin for the 50meg package broadband as BT keep capping us at 1meg, saying we are using too much[:0], anyway, I can confirm that yes, they do a FULL credit check, we tried putting it in my name, they said "oo have you ever been bankrupt?" [:I] Then they tried hubby's name, same result [:I]

Son has just turned 18 so its gone in his name with the payments coming out of our bank account and we had to pay a small deposit, they were ok with this and its being installed next week!

We don't want a phone with SKY (BT) as we both (me and GF) have contract mobiles and we use them. So really all I'd want is the SKY package and broadband. I was under the assumption that in order to have SKY you must have the phone?!?

You do need a landline in order to have Sky TV. It can be with BT though. I think you'd need it to have the broadband as well unless you did mobile broadband.

Oh right. I really want to go onto SKY but I don't want or need a land line telephone. At the mo I just got VM+8MEG broadband(actually only 4).

I don't think so, although I think you get a better deal if you take out all 3.
