I am in an IVA now but I contacted about 6 different companies and the different advice I got was staggering. Some wanted up front fees and some didnt. Is there any qualifications for these people to give advice as I got the feeling with most that it was just a call centre and they knew very little? Does anyone know how it works?

The majority of the larger firms do operate with call centres at the front line - but the advice should still be good. I think a real test of quality ought to be the accessability of the IP - often my clients want advice from the horse's mouth, and I see this as a real part of my job.

Glad you managed to find a company you were comfortable to work with - and to answer your question, all IPs have to be professionally qualified to act, and those qualifications are pretty difficult to get hold of and require years of experience.
