Hi everyone, I thought that I would let you know how my husband and I are getting on after I posted a few questions a few weeks ago. I called a few companies for advice and we have gone with Melanies team (I think I knew from the start Melanie was the way forward from all the great reviews she has). I started off speaking to Tina on the 7th September who was lovely and very helpful. I am now with Angela and I have been very busy sending her all the information that she needs to start the proceedings. This firm has been so helpful, I find myself thinking and worrying about the IVA almost all day and Angela has been very supportive to me. Hopefully all our documents will have been recieved now. I will keep you all updated on the process because the forum has really helped me and hopefully someone might find our experiences helpful. I might even start a blog if I can work out how to do it! Many thanks to you all and to Melanies great team xx

We are too are at the same point as you, although i just need to send proof of childcare through to them. It is a worrying time and some creditors have started to call and write to us.

Hello again everyone! Well I have a little more news for you, Angela contacted me on the 22nd September and said that all my documentation has been recieved and my case is ready to go to the proposal team, so hopefully I'll be hearing from then soon. I've had my first call from a creditor today. I felt sick to the stomach when the house phone rang. I had written to all our creditors on the 17th September advising them of our intention to enter an IVA,and it was Tesco Finance who called (the payment was due today). I thought it may take a few days to call, not the day it was due! But, the man I spoke to was so nice, he said that he was calling because they had recieved my letter and they understood that we wanted to enter an IVA and he acknowledged that I had said that we will pay token payments from Octobers wages as we need to save our first payment to send with the proposal. He said it was fine and that they will call again in 2 weeks to see how the proposal is progressing. I had also put in my letter that I didn't want to be contacted at work and I mentioned this to him and he said that they had already taken my work number off their system! I couldn't belive how nice and understanding he was. If only all creditors were going to be like this - but I know that they won't be! Interestingly, I've just been reading through Pennyless' tread who is with Melanie too, and he contacted Melanie's team last year, exactly a year to the day that I did! I hope my proposal and meeting happens as quickly as his did, it was really interesting following his progress, especially when the timing was so close to mine - his creditors meeting was on the 30th October - that's amazing! Anyway, that's all my news for now. I'll be sure to keep you posted.

Nice to hear from you again Katikat, you've chosen the best and I'm sure it won't be long now until all your paperwork is sent to you for review.
I hope the creditors are all as nice to you, but don't fret if they're not you're doing the right thing. x

How refreshing to hear that a creditor has been sympathetic and full marks to Tesco for that.
Hopefully won't be long until your proposal comes through now.

Its great that you are posting Katikat to keep everyone up to speed - very interesting for others in your postion and also really helpful for those that haven't yet found the courage to come forward for help yet.
Best wishes and it was a real pleasure taking that first call from you, so glad Melanie is looking after you.

I wish more creditors were like Tesco too, it would save lots of grief. I mean they do not gain from constant calls and harrassment, in fact it costs them.
I've just had a recall of some advice HSBC gave me when I missed a credit card payment in July 2007 (14 months before I asked for help).
They took what money I had in my savings account (54p I think lol) and told me under no circumstances to approach debt companies. I'm sure they can't give that advice out legally can they, I remember at the time feeling threatened bu the caller and this statement.
Keep us updated Katikat [:D]

All HSBC wanted to do with us was give us a managed loan just to pay their loan off!
Halifax took £34 out of my savings account to offset against a £20k debt! Much good it did them!

Nat West told me I wasn't allowed an IVA. It gets better...
...I needed creditor approval to APPLY for an IVA.
It gets better...
...and if I went ahead with the proposal wthout their approval they would default me and demand immediate payment in full.
Then the threat...
...Do I want to go to court or would I make a token payment?
I would tell you what I said but the administrators would be here all night "editing the naughties out"!!!!!!

Hi, thanks for your replies, there's more news - Capital One sent me a letter today in response to my letter to say that they will accept the small token payment offer for six months, so hopefully the IVA would be in place before six months is up - they even acknowledged the payment date being October too. They have yet to respond to my husbands letter, but hopefully they will treat him the same. All good so far, but I'm dreading the calls from Barclaycard, Aqua, Vanquis, Co-Op and TSB!
