Hi everyone

We woke up on Tuesday morning to find our boiler had water streaming out of it. Called an engineer out to look at it and was told that the parts that had broken were no longer made (stopped making them in 1995!).

We have been told ever since we moved into our house just over 4 years ago that it was only a matter of time before it went - typical that it happens 4 months into our IVA!

I have read from other threads that people have been given payment breaks to allow people to pay for things such as this which is great, i reckon we could pay it off in 6 months, but my concern is after reading the terms of my IVA, the IP takes the 1st 5 payments as part of their fees (next week we make our 5th) so if we were took a 6 month payment holiday our creditors would not see a penny for nearly a year.

Has anyone else been in this situation?

Before anyone says, i am just about to ring my IP now to discuss it. Just writing it down first helps! Will let you know what they say.

Hi, I too have just had a new boiler and had to have a payment break to fund this, luckily my son loaned me the money and I repaid him by way of our IVA payments x 3. I'm back to paying the IVA this month. Hope you get on ok talking to your IP xx

Sorry to hear about your boiler troubles.

Hope you manage to get it sorted and that you can sort out a payment break.

Hi Bees,

Creditors quite often don't receive a dividend payment with the first annual report, so please don't worry about that. Terrible timing from the boiler, it's still quite cold outside! Good luck getting that payment break.

It's nice and mild in the Midlands Liam! I'm even thinking of switching ours off for the time being as we're in double figures!

It is vital to have heat but your IP may still have to call a variation. It is common for creditors to ask for the first dividend to be paid by month 9 for example which would be impossible if you have a break. I do not see them having a problem with the break but to keep everything in order a variation may be required.

Hi - I hope your ip can arrange this for you quickly. Don't worry about the timing; lots of us have problems early on. In some ways it helps to cement a relationship with your team. About six months in I had to tell my guy i was being evicted and my job was under threat...we got to know each other qute quickly! How's the weather near you...are you in the mild or snowy part of the country?

10deg here too, been like that a day or so now. Its nice but unsettling cos we know that its gonna drop again. Really hope we don't get anymore snow though.

Sorry to hear about the boiler, we needed a part for ours though thankfully DH could get it from where he works slightly cheaper than main shop. Hope you get it sorted soon

Hope you get the boiler sorted - do you have "boiler care insurance" ? If not, it may be worth looking at - it's an allownce that should be included in your proposal.

We pay £18 a month for boiler and electrical cover.
