Some posters have faced these questions and I have never known it make a material difference to promotion/employment.

What is the exact wording of the question?

You will need to answer honestly and it might be just as well to forewarn your line manager or HR so you can explain at the same time. First, check your contract, handbook and intranet to check you aren't contravening any policies by entering into an agreement with your creditors..

I am assuming that the form is simply a basic security check and you will have no problem getting clearance for the job.

Good morning,

What level are you being checked to? Just be completely honest on your form. With an IVA CTC should be fine, SC level should also be ok, no guarantees though, DV could be a problem.

You will probably be sent another specific financial questionnaire, You could also ask your IP for a reference, Most IP's are more than happy to provide this.

Regards

don't worry i went through my IVA whist working for a MoD contractor, my 10 year security review came up, and i received special notifcation from the relevent dept at MoD, i explained circumstances and they were fine, they did check 2 years later that the position hadn't changed.

I recently went through the security clearance as my initial 10 years run out.

I ticked the box that said I had adverse credit and sent it off.

They later wrote to me to ask for more information about my financial status. I filled out the forms and also sent them all of the documentation to do with the debt and how I had it under control.

They wrote to me again saying they have granted the clearance but will review it in 2 years time instead of 10.

Think it is best to be honest and upfront with them, show them you have nothing to hide and all is under control.

The irony is that once the debt problems have been solved the client is much less of a security risk. Someone in an IVA or who has been made bankrupt would be much less susceptible to bribery or blackmail than someone secretly collapsing under a mountain of debt.

We have done many IVAs over the years for members of the police, armed services etc and coming clean has always been the best approach.

Hi, I have been an avid follower of this forum over the last year and appreciate all the information, so much of which has been helpful. I do wish I had found it before. I have never posted before so now I am and I hope this will be of some help.

My husband is contracted to the defence industry, 2 years into our IVA in early 2008 he received forms to be re- vetted for full security clearance. He was honest about the IVA (as stated on the form they will run a credit check in any case) and the result was that he would be reviewed in 18 months time. (I was really worried at this point) At our request, our IP kindly provided a full financial breakdown of payments and balances etc to include with the next review. The outcome was that hubby received a letter thanking him for the information, commending him for being open and honest and confirming that he was now security cleared until the next routine 10 year check is due. I know I am the last person to talk but please try not to worry, if you are totally honest and can demonstrate that you are dealing with your situation responsibly and are reducing your debts, the outcome should be fine. Additionally, although the original paperwork was issued via the company’s own security department, all following communication was direct with the vetting agency and completely confidential, company security and line management were not involved at all.

(At last, nearly at the end of our IVA with only 3 months to go!)

Very helpful information and should provide some comfort for other posters. Congratulations on getting this far and pretty soon you will be debt free.
