Not too sure if I have spelled it right.
Anyways, i was wondering if, when in an IVA Tithing could be included in Expenditure.

I go to church but we don't have to do this (its where you give 10% of salary to the church), but my friend does it who goes to another church.

Anyway, she is in a DMP and she told she couldn't include it in her expenditure budget. I was just wondering if this would be the same in an IVA?

No idea, but I wouldn't have thought so.

I do stand to be corrected though.

Sorry - that would not be allowed in an IVA. I have had quite a few clients recently who are paying these sums, but when they explain to the church why they cannot continue with them the Church seem very supportive.

Thanks Melanie.

The girl I know - I have told her to explain the situation she is in, but she says she 'must' continue paying it, and the church comes first. x

Hopefully the church would support someone paying whatever they could afford - there is a £2 church/charity contribution allowance and I know this is amost nothing compared to 10% of earnings but at least you could still do your bit for the time being.

Regards,

Well if that is her priority fair enough - but clearly this is a large part of her income, and it seems odd that she would put herself under financial pressure because of this.

That seems a very unsupportive attitude from the church.

I pay monthly into a charity and that is funded by me, I've never claimed for it.

I was just curious really, as she had mentioned it and it got me to thinking.

I would have thought the church should support her. In fact we had a sermon regarding this kind of thing last Sunday and our pastor said that we all have different circumstances and therefore shouldn't feel as though we must give, and we should only give what we can. x

I will admit that I am not religous - weddings, christenings and funerals are the only time I set foot inside a church.

I would always put my family and finances first though before handing anything over to anyone else these days, and no way would I hand over 10% of my salary.

Kallis, to be honest that is the thing I struggle with really, and we would never tithe even though we go to church. x

It is each to his own, but if people are struggling financially then the church should definitely come second to family.
