I started my IVA in June 2007. I then met my partner in October of the same year. We are talking about getting married but are worried that my debt will then rub onto his good credit history. He has also bought a house and wouldnt want me to have to be lose this if we got married annd he should die before my IVA finishes.

Can anyone please advise whether we would have any obligations or would it be better to wait until my IVA is finished before we get married to be sure??

Thanks in anticipation

Unless to have Joint accounts or a finanically associated with him in some other way your credit will not impact on him.

Perhaps for a time being try to keep you finanical arrangements separate - you have only another year and bit to go.
It may also be worth considering wills - as it can make life a lot easly "should something happen"

Congratulations!

Your marriage is unlikely to change much, especially if you already live with each other. Will you continue to make household contributions, or contributions to the mortgage?

Hi there Yorkie74

Given that getting married is not going to affect your financial position in any way, then doing so will have no effect on your husband to be or his property.

If you are concerned about your partner dying before your IVA finishes, then his will should reflect that he wants his property to go to someone else. This could then be changed once your IVA is finished.

As others have said your partners house and credit rating will not be affected. Your I&E will be reviewed to ensure you are paying the correct % of the bills each month, but his income will not be taken into account for anything else.
