Hi All
Our car is coming to the end of its life and I need a car to get to work. We only have one car and myself and husband use it for work. He works nights and I use it for work in the day. We do not work close so no car no job. We obviously do not have money for a car. Does anybody know if it possible to get finance for a car (small amount) and to get finance use a family member as a guarantee maybe? My monthly IVA payments have been reduced due to fewer work hours and it has been reduced to £250.00 per month so even if I asked to hold back a couple of payments it wont be enough, I am thinking I would need around £1,000.00 to get a run a round that wont die before my IVA has finished (hopefully).
Any advise would be great, thank you.

You will need to gain the permission of your IP in the first instance. If your IP agrees there is a company called Duncton that help people in an IVA and you can either lease a vehicle through them or purchase a vehicle through them - you can source the car yourselves or they will source it for you. I know someone who has used them in the last week and they have been excellent in arranging everything!

You need to speak to your IP about this. It may be possible to have a payment break to allow you to buy a car.
Let us know how you get on.

I agree with others have a word with your IP in the first instance and hopefully something can be sorted. x

It might be better to get your family member to take out the agreement in their own name, and you meet the monthly repayments. Speak to your IP for more specific guidance.

Thank you all again!!!
Duncton seems good but over what we can afford. I think we will ask for help from a family member. I will let you know.

Hi. Im also looking for a family car, so it needs to be very safe and also very roomy. I need to pack 2 kids there

I was thinking about this
http://www.cbg.ie/NewCars/Nissan/Tiida.aspx (Nissan Tiida), because as you can see, it got quite a good review. Is anyone using this car? I'd be grateful for any opinions on this!

We have a Tiida and have had no problems with it at all. I do not believe that it can be bought in the UK and the speed and distance are only measured in kilometres but other than that I would recommend the car.

I am looking for new/better car, mine is always breaking down.
How does it accept people in IVAs ? I thought that would be breaking the rules of IVAs etc ??
will let people know

As long as you have your IP's permission there is not a problem to take out credit for a car from Duncton.
I've never heard of that model Michael so I think you're right.

Hi Stewpots - car financing or leasing could be acceptable to yur creditors. Have a chat to your IP about it and let us know how you get on. My IP didn't have a problem with me leasing (from boyfriend) after my car died as public transport was equivalent to car costs and a salary increase meant I could cover the additional costs without needing to reduce my payments. P.S - as I work occasional shifts and my home in the country is not serviced by public transport, I was allowed to include taxi costs in my public transport calculations. Give me a shout off forum if you want x

I just got it agreed by my IP that my parents could take out a £5000 loan for me to buy a new card as I work a 24 shift system and need transport so they agreed £130 per month to repay my parents from to extra i earn in overtime each month instead of paying in to my IVA, so all is not lost in an IVA and common sense does prevail with a good IP as no work no money, no money no IVA payments

That's good - I think most IPs and creditors are amenable to this.

That's great news Stewpots! Any idea what type of car you want? I'm getting a Fiat 500 and so excited but the petrol prices scare me as I will be driving circa 250 miles per week...eek!

I don't think they drink a lot BOL. One of my colleagues has one of them and swears by it and I think it's quite frugal.
Bit small for me though, especially having the three dogs.
I think it was deepinit who has been agreed, not stewpots.
