Does anyone know if Nationwide supports existing customers who go BR?

I think you should be ok - I'm with them and had no problems and I'm sure Skippy had an account while she was BR.

Thanks both.. It's for someone I'm helping. Hopefully they can keep their existing nationwide basic account.

I'm not sure Julie. I opened my account with them at the time they still accepted undischarged BRs, and I never mentioned the BR when I started using my old account. It might be worth an anonymous call to ask rather than take a chance.

An update on Nationwide - they were very helpful. They will welcome customers who are BR with basic cardcash accounts. Existing Nationwide customers will have their accounts frozen, but can open up a cardcash account as soon as they are BR and any monies will transfer from old account to new.
Hope this will help others in the future.

Thanks for that Julie. It seems as though they have changed their position on BR as I know they had stopped offering accounts to bankrupts. Good news!

That's fine Kat68 - you do not have to tell your bank you are in an IVA.[:)]

Nationwide have no idea of our IVA's - our account has continued with no problems at all.
We also still have a full Barclays account as they were not one of hubby's creditors.

I'm using my full Nationwide account from before I was bankrupt. They weren't a creditor and I haven't had any problems so don't worry x

I wish all banks etc would be as open minded. If there's no debt involved directly and you have a basic account, I don't see why there's a problem.
I'm still annoyed with the Halifax for freezing our joint account...grrrr [}:)]

Exactly Julie! I get so annoyed that we get penalised for actually doing something about our debts.
