We're just about to enter our 6th year of IVA and I've just found out that I might be made redundant in a couple of months. I've only worked there for a year and a half so there would be next to nothing in redundancy pay.
My husband is still employed and we would be able to continue with decreased payments down to £500 instead of £1K. We had 6 months with reduced payments when I lost my last job but we've never defaulted and the arrears were waived.
My husband would loose his job if we were declared bankrupt and the house we live in is tied to his work.
To further complicate matters, my husband has just been diagnosed with a condition which may result in loosing his job anyway, if no improvement in health within 6 months.
Does anyone have any tips on hope to word this to our IP?
There is a slight possibilty that my husband may get some compensation for pain and suffering, could we try for a F & F settlement?

Hi Grumple and welcome to the forum. I'm so sorry to read of your potential redundancy and your husband's health. I would try and speak with your IP direct and explain everything how it is. You've come so far so I doubt it would be anyone's best interest for this to fail now. If you hubby loses his job does that mean you lose your house? x

Hi Lesley
Thanks for your reply. We will try and speak to the IP nearer the time but we were just wondering if anyone had had a similar experience.
Sadly, if my other half loses his job we'd have to move out of the house within 90 days. Don't fancy breaking that news to the kids...

I'm sorry I can't help with a similar experience but maybe tomorrow someone will be along to answer the post. Hopefully the IVA will conclude nicely and you will be able to move forward into your debt free future. All the best x

Hi! Im really sorry to hear about everything going on at the moment. A chat to your IP will help ease the worry. At this late stage, reduced payments or even payments to date if your husband's problems materialise seems the most sensible way forward. Wishing you all the best xx

Hi Grumple. Sorry to hear of your plight, and so nesr the end too. I would suggest that you speak to your IP sooner, rather than later, so thay he/ she can give the matter due consideration and come up with a plan.

Just caught up with this and sorry to hear of your problems.
I would think you could ask your IP to accept what has been paid across as a full and final offer to your creditors. You're almost at the end and I'm sure, given the circumstances, that this will be acceptable.
Do speak to your IP as soon as possible.

I would second what Kallis has said, and push for that outcome. I do hope things improve for you. I also hope your husband health improves. x x

Thanks for all your messages. We were hanging fire about talking to the IP until we have some firmer answers on a couple of things, maybe it would be worth a phonecall for advice.
Hopefully we should know more about my job in the next couple of weeks and my husband goes for a barrage of tests next month to confirm diagnosis.
Wish I'd know about this board before, I think we would have found it useful many times over the last fiive years!

You are so close to the end that I think you will be ok with offering what you have paid as a full and final.

Hi - don't bottle it all up. An informal chat with your IP now will make it all a bit easier to deal with and they will be prepared for whatever comes along later. Just a thought. x

Thanks for your help. We did try emailing Declan from DFD as that is who we hold the IVA with, does anyone know how long answers take or are we not supposed to email experts directly? We are new to this forum and are just finding our feet, don't want to upset anyone...

Declan is usually pretty good at picking up on posts but you can contact him via the 'Ask a question' link on the left hand side of the page. His details are on there.

I have just spoken to DFD and I don't seem to be any further forward.
My job finishes in July, redeployment isn't an option -no local jobs. DFD have suggested we make a full & final payment (if I had the brass wouldn't be in this position!) or six months reduced payments.
Explained about husband's illness and they said we may be looking at an extension - we are already doing 72 months and the paperwork stated in the first instance no more than 72 months. If my husband's tests are bad he will probably lose his job sooner than later as he will only be retained if he can be gainfully employed in the future.
Does anyone have any ideas?
