I was stuck with a saving account which has just stopped allowing direct debits.
I've struggled along without a proper account cos of my IVA.
I applied again today (IVA F&F settled) and been offered their top account with all the trimmings. Even a CHEQUE BOOK lol. I've forgotton what they look like.
onwards n upwards... [:D]
I don't think I'll take their credit card though [B)]

Cheque books are becoming obsolete, and the banks will stop issuing them soon. A step in the wrong direction if you ask me.

I don't use cheques often but they do come in handy sometimes.

I use my chequebook now and then as I collect and pay the office charity donations an a lot of the smaller charities don't have debit card facilities.

I think it's wrong to phase out chequebooks - charities and small businesses will be hit hard by this. OH is self employed and can only accept cheques or cash so I don't know what he's supposed to do!

Although I have a full bank account I don't have an overdraft. It just makes life easier having a full debit card (which I know a lot of basic accounts have now) and chequebook. I would like a £50 'buffer' though, just to be on the safe side!

We still have our full Barclays account from pre-iva (no overdraft though!) as they weren't one of hubbys creditors just mine (Barclaycard).

We'll keep it going so that we can go back to it full time once the IVA has finished. Nationwide are ok but it is just the basic account.

The only reason I switched to Nationwide from the Co-op was because it was a full bank account and it seemed pointless not to use it. I've also got a basic account with Nationwide that I use for housekeeping - it's so much better now it has a debit card!
