Evening people, does anyone know of a good cheap international call company, Im with virgin media and whilst I am happy with my package, the international call rate is very high, pushing my monthly bill up by quite a lot every month, my Mum lives in Spain and I miss my mum and tend to ring her a few times a week so am prepared to sacrifice another area of my budget/cut down on food etc.. to fund the calls but if anyone knows of another cheap way I would be grateful, did look at one called '18185' but no idea how these things work! I was previously with Sky where I was on free international calls with the package I had but left them for other reasons, so this high phone bill malarky has come as a shock now!!

Hi, hope you are well.
Could you and your mum do Skype? That way you could converse via the internet and I don't think it cost you?
Does your mum have a computer?

Hi oscarsmum1
I have used international calls and I know BT do international calls at £5 per month and u can ring as many times as you like up to one hour at a time. But you must end the call on the hour or they will charge you more.

Skype is good if Mum is computer literate (even a little), doesn't cost anything. I Skype with daughter who lives in the same house as me!

HI
A quick check on google will bring you a list of contact numbers
here you go
http://www.cheapestinternationalcalls.com/
Most work by you call a contact number then you get charged a 20p connect fee then you get a voice message to tell you to dial the number that you want and then you are connected at in your case 1p per minute
Land lines are cheaper and better quality Mobiles are slightly higher
Try a few to see which is best
What it is called is VOIP Voice over Internet Protocol basically using the internet as the phoneline the same as the online messengers do
You can chat online for free using yahoo messenger or msn or skype if your mums got a PC or laptop
I think you can use the facetime on iphones also to other countries I have seen it work in the UK but not to a different country as I dont have an iphone cant help
good luck

I Skype my sister in the US all the time for free, before I was having phone bills of £11 extra on just the one call per month, although that doesn't sound a lot when our phone bill is normally less than £4 that was quite a hike for us. Now it is grea t as we can see her as well as hear her and she can see my grandson growing etc.
