Are you allowed to have SKY tv in an IVA. I gave up SKY when I entered my IVA a year ago, but I do really miss having decent programmes, and as I work shifts it would be nice to be able to record things. I often miss things when I'm on nights. I think I could probably manage the basic package out of my household allowance. Do they credit check you and has anyone been successful in getting SKY whilst in an IVA. I'm afraid to apply in case I fail the credit check. I know it's a bit cheeky to want SKY in an IVA but, now the Winter is nearly here, it's nice to have options.

Yes you are allowed Sky but it is only the basic package which is £23 and anything else will have to be funded from other allowances.

I don't know how they credit check as we already had Sky before the IVA.

Hi. They generally do allow the basic package in your expenditure. Let's face it, for many of us it's the only entertainment we get and, if it keeps you sane for 5 years, it's worth it

I would not be without Sky!

I tried to give it up when things were getting tight, pre-iva ..... didn't last long though!

It's my only entertainment! We rarely go out so it keeps us going.

Thanks. That's really helpful. I must admit I have really missed it. I'd only want the basic package so that sounds fine. I had to give it up pre-iva as one of the things that had to go, but it would be nice to have it back. I think I'll bite the bullet and apply and see if I get accepted, as they are doing a good deal on the internet at the moment.

We need sky where we live-we can only pick up 9 freeview channels!!!
The basic package works out at 24.50 a month with all the entertainment channels - so we only have to put 1.50 extra towards it - well worth the money!!!

Thanks guys. I would like to get it. I just wondered if anyone had been successful in getting it whilst in an IVA, as you guys seem to have SKY pre IVA so it would just be continuous. I'm not if they credit check you for SKY and if anyone has been successful in getting it once they have entered their IVA. I think I will give it a try though. I don't have anything to lose.

I've no idea about credit checks post IVA for Sky - you could try Virgin though as I think they are fine.

Andrea -if you are only getting Sky - because you cant get Freeview - try Freesat - you have to pay for dish/installation + box - but after that its all free. If you have the right TV - then you can get the HD channels free as well

Always worth a go -- the worse they can do is say no and a check footprint at the momenbt isn't going to be the end of the world.

Yes, you should be able to upgrade your subscription in a IVA to the basic tv package. If you had a previous subscription to sky they will already have your details as a customer, and probably have a internal payment record which is why they probably don't do the credit check.

Post IVA no problems with either for existing customer upgrades (sky), and virgin credit checked me - all ok [:)]

hi lola,i cancelled sky last year and have now gone back to it,this was after i got my iva so there was no problem and it was switched back on within 10 mins, we do have the sports channels as hubby a footy fan so it is worth it to us to pay the extra as we never go out and dont drink so this our enjoyment.be careful of offers on internet though,these tend to be for brand new customers not ones who go back to them
