I met my sister for lunch today, and I was partly dreading it. To cut a long story short, before the evil MBNA did my legs I borrowed £3000 from my sister to clear my store cards. I was repaying her £160 a month, and am only 4 months in.
Hubby didn't want to include then in the IVA, once its up and running as he didn't want then to know, but I had to tell her today as we can't afford to keep paying that each month.
Well she's just called me after speaking to her hubby, and they're happy to write it off! Thank you didn't seem like enough, and I couldn't find any words enough to tell her how grateful we both are. All I could do was assure her once we're through all this we would repay them. If only all our creditors could be as understanding as this.

SueEllen76 - I know how you feel ! When we were in our IVA my sister gave us her three year old car and never expected a penny back !
Telling family is very daunting and for some people it is impossible - but for us honesty with both parents and sisters meant a real support for us throughout the IVA and we were almost "protected" by them for the duration of the IVA - they would always be on the phone and a meal would always be on the table when the going got tough some months !
Good old sisters !

Inspiring stuff from both of you there. Family support has clearly helped make those family bonds ever better. I did ask my cat for a loan and he brought me a mouse but somehow don't think the IP would appreceiate that dropping through the letterbox as an offer of a F&F.

What a lovely post and what lovely family you have. My hubby has had an accident at work today which included him being airlifted to hospital etc., I rang to tell his Mum and she said don't struggle for money now he's off work, I have money.

I'm sure you'll repay it in due course if only for your peace of mind but a wonderful gesture. x

Bad enough but he'll survive, he fell off a ladder, very battered and bruised, glued and stapled but it could have been a whole lot worse. Back injury required spinal board and quick to hospital precautionary I think?/ x

thanks all, yesterday MIL was having a moment of clarity, however, woke me at 5am this morning with an early morning call that could have been in a foreign language as I've no idea what she was going on about! Bless her I know mental illness is horrible but I must remember to unplug the phone at night!

Me too Lesley, even though it might have been precautionary, it's frightening at the time xxx
