So, I send off all the documentation to my council, including DD form, consent to carry surplus council tax over from the old joint occupancy account to my single one, and the single occupancy form, only for the idiots in the office to act only upon the DD form...

The result is they've taken £295 from my account today! When I called, the nice (but totally thick) lady said "aww... We've got a backlog of paperwork here; that's why you've been charged so much..." and that was that! Grrrrr!!!!

Rant over... Beans this month I feel for my son and me (good job I like beans)!

Hi
Contact your bank and ask them to refund the amount under the direct debit guarantee, don't let them fob you off with anything other than a "yes".

Equally contact the chief exec of your council and insist they get it right and explain what impact this has on you, especially if you incurr bank charges because of their faults !

Good luck

Agree withAndy - will be a lot quicker to speak to your bank and allow them to recoup the money - in the meantime any problems with the bank - mention the DD guarantee and the Bank codes - which clearly indicate a a short time limit on the return of funds - this places the rsponsiblity on the BANK - just sometimes you have to be very assertive to the "spotty youth in the call centre"

Hi
Yes you can but from experience they will try and get you to contact council directly, don't accept this, quote the Direct Debit guarantee and insist on an immediete refund

Same here Andy - but once to start to quote the Banking codes and DD guarantee and ask for a name - things tend to move a lot quicker :-)

yes use your rights. as consumers we have rights, not many people know what these rights are because banks and big business usually confine these rights to the small print(very small print). good luck.
