I'm after a recommendation for a good solicitor with specialist knowledge of bankruptcy law.

I'm not currently planning on going bankrupt, but I am insolvent and in a DMP, so there's the always the (remote) chance one of my creditors may decide to BR me.

The reason I want to consult with a lawyer is that my wife (who is financially separate from me - we don't even a joint account) is about to buy a house. Neither of use owns property at the moment.

I'm aware that in the event of BR, sometimes the OR can claim beneficial interest even if your name isn't on the property, and I wish to minimise the risk of this happening.

Is there a lawyer who you'd recommend for advising me on this?

I don't know of anyone I'm afraid. Have a word with the CAB they might know of someone in your area.

How can your wife be financially separate completely? Do you not share bills and household costs etc?

Yellow pages will help.

The bills might be in one name though. Ours are just in my name. Perhaps they pay things separately.

As above, yellow pages or CAB - or you could try the Community Legal Advice helpline - 0845 345 4 345. I believe they can advise on specialisations and Legal Aid solicitors etc.

OH and I have nothing in joint names - all the bills are in his name, as is the mortgage.

I don't want to escape - it took me 13 years to get him to agree to get married!
