Hi all, I'm having trouble renewing my car insurance as all the cheaper providers seem to use a 3rd party credit provider for the monthly payments (most seem to use a firm called Premium First). I've been declined credit by this firm so am faced with trying to pay the whole annual premium in full but at over £1000 I can't afford to.

Anyone know of insurers who will allow those of us in IVA's to pay monthly? (I know a few self finance, ie don't use a 3rd party but they tend to be much more expensive).

I think there are a few who accept monthly payments. We've stayed with the same one for years so have no problem renewing.

I'm sure some of the other posters will be able to help.

Hi, I changed provider recently. I went through Compare the Market and was accepted by Kwik Fit to pay monthly, having previously been with Aviva (for years!). We are also in an IVA and I had no problem setting things up to pay monthly. I hope that you manage to sort something out please do let us know how you get on.

Hi Bob and Gill, If you can afford the slightly higher premium I would plump for the Kwik Fit Platinum with breakdown cover. We had to use it within one month of taking it out and were towed back home (a 6 hour journey) I could not recommend it enough. Best of luck.

I think a lot more insurers are using 3rd party companies to finance the policy, and credit checking is much more common than it used to be even 6-12 months ago.

Silly really as if you dont pay one month they cancel your policy, easy.

On nearly all of the insurers pages it says that you are not eligible for monthly payments if you have been declared bankrupt or had an IVA etc :-(

My last home insurance policy said the same, bankrupt or IVA,because I am in a trust deed in scotland I ticked the no box.

Its crazy, and is going down the lines of insolvent people being seen as a greater risk. My wife tried to get horse insurance and NFU refused to quote as she was a greater risk of fraudulant claims. Cheeky gits,we may be insolvent but to tar us with the same brush as fraudsters is outrageous.

Well they accepted me! They simply asked for payment of the first months premium upfront, which I did. Have you applied?

Yey!! All accepted with Endsleigh Insurance, they are fine with IVA's as long as it wasn't started in the last 12 months. The best bit is the price, my original insurer NFU wanted £113 per month, Endsleigh just accepted me at £68 per month which is a huge saving!! Kwik fit were quite a bit more.
