Does anyone know if any IP has made any policy decisions for those of us loosing our child benefit next year. We are going to be down over £250 and with an extra £130 per months to pay for school buses this is not a small sum.

Hi,

You will have to speak to the IP about this - I think a lot of people will be in the same position as you and may need their payments altering.

As things currently stand I believe any household with a taxpayer at the 40% rate will lose child benefit from 2013. If there are two tax payers but both underneath the 40% rate you will not lose it.

Any new IVAs been undertaken since the announcement should have had that factor built in or at least discussed to look at options down the line. Speak to your IP now if you believe you are at risk of losing it.

I will lose nearly £200 per month because Hubby is a 40% tax payer and I don't work and on top of that his tax code has changed so that he can pay back £938 arrears from previous tax year (due to car change) x

Sorry to read that footiemad - it should be based on household earnings to be fairer. The hardest hit are homes where one works and is just over 40% tax and the other person doesn't work due to childcare due to if they worked the childcare costs would swallow up the income and in come cases cost more on top. It is going to hit a lot of people very hard and those that are still carrying on RPTPP in the debt cycle will unfortunately get into an even bigger mess.

I think it's dreadful that they target homes with one higher rate tax payer and those with two lower rate, whose total income may be more than the one higher rate, can continue on.

Thanks for the info Tina - helpful as always !!

Its a shame that the households with the 40% tax band will miss out - particularly in the current financial climate.

I'll lose CTC and FA this year due to daughter going in to further education. Luckily I'm nearing the end (fingers crossed) so will only affect me for a few months but have outlined this in my recent review.x
