Hooray! My IVA has now been finalised and I have my completion certificate - am over the moon! I think i now have to contact the Data Controllers for each of my creditors and send them a copy of my certificate to ensure they update their records so in turn my credit file/rating is updated? Is this correct? Any tips on how I go about doing this?
Thanks
Caron

Congratulations...
First step, if you have not already done so is to get hold of your credit files from Call Credit, Experian and Equifax. (They cost £2 each but you can sign up for the months free trial at Experian and Equifax)
Call credit you can get free reports from
www.noddle.co.uk
Then once you have your reports you need to check that
The IVA is marked as completed, if it's not ask the CRA to do this by sending them a copy of your completion certificate.
Check all defaults.... They should be
dated on or before the start date of your IVA
Marked as Satisfied or Partially Satisfied.
Have a Zero Outstanding Balance (Note the original default amount will remain)
Defaults remain on your credit file for 6 years from when they were first registered regardless of whether they are marked as satisfied or not.
It's a good idea to get them marked as satisfied as it prevents the debt from being sold on.
If any data needs amending on the report, you should write to "The Data Controller" for each of the creditors where information is inaccurate or out of date. There are some template letters available on this site under
http://www.iva.co.uk/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=183
You will find the address to write to for the data controllers on the ICO register available here
http://www.ico.gov.uk/what_we_cover/reg ... llers.aspx
First step though get hold of your 3 credit files.
Good luck for the future which you can now start building with the completion certificate in your hands

Wow! Thanks TheMatrix.... you do have a wealth of knowledge like it says above! Just one thing - what does CRA stand for? I registered with Experian and Equifax previously so just need to log in and check them out.
really appreciate your help

Well done. I really did think about it and I had a look at my credit files, ohhhh what a mess. So on the assumption that after six years the defaults etc drop off anyway.(yeah bet that in reality is going to take work)so I'll wait till then.
My reason is I went into my Nationwide where I have a cash plus account (with debit card) for nearly six years, faultess. The IVA shows as satisfied but as the manager says I know, but it's still there, so no you can't have a flex current account...But that's only a debit card account tooo, I whinned. Not so, not all debit cards are equal. And the less credit (if at all) you apply for now the more lenders will know about the IVA post six years, they won't in theroy
I suppose I might be a bit paranoid!
