I've now done my first year on IVA, I know I'll get there but 5yrs at the mo seems a long time away....I'm in a little one bed shared-ownership house, so I have mortgage on 50% of the house and pay housing association rent for the other 50%, I know I cant move houses or remortgage for the next 5 yrs but when I come to do so - in 5 yrs time (how I'll stay in this one bed thing in the next 5 yrs I'll never know and I can't rent it out either), will there be any more probs getting a mortgage as I've had an IVA aswell as sharedownership property?? feel like life on hold. have my partner living with me but he doesnt pay towards IVA, we keep bills etc separate and IVA co know this, thought it easier that way.

Your IVA remains on your credit file for 6 years from date of acceptance. Many of our posters have secured a mortgage post IVA and I'm sure someone will be along soon to give their experience. We do have an expert on board the forum called Ryan he has helped several posters post IVA as he's an all of the market broker.

Andy Davie the site founder is living proof an IVA doesn't stop your life forever. x

I would imagine in five years time the mortgage position will be different.....there are options out there now and as Lesley says when the time comes speak with a mortgage broker who deals with the whole of the market....Ryan has successfully achieved mortgages for a number of forum members (me included) and for those people it has I am sure been a turning point in their lives an one they thought would never happen at the outset of there IVA
