Hi I managed to get a contract phone wit Orange in May 2011 with terrible credit BUT before my IVA was set up in Jan 2012 - my contract is up for renewal but I want to move to 3 from Orange....just thought I won't pass the dreaded credit check - has anyone managed to get a phone contract with a new provider whilst in an IVA - if not I will have to upgrade with Orange and stick with them through my IVA ? Want to move but suspect I am trapped !

Hi,

You are unlikely to get a contract with 3 - I had to get my daughter to do mine as they turned both me and hubby down.

T Mobile are supposed to be ok with those of us in an IVA.

Queenbee, apparently, noted from other posters, T Mobile are very IVA friendly. Give them a try.

I managed a contract with T-mobile on behalf of daughter who was under 18 at the time and she just gave me the money. x

Abbiesmum, a new car insurance quote would require a credit check I'm afraid - whereas a renewal wont. You may be stuck with your current insurer. However, theres no reason you cant ask for a better deal with your current insurer. You'd be surprised what they can do for you if you threaten to leave them.

Hi Queenbe. Re: car insurance; I've changed twice - M&S and then Tesco's. Had no problems and pay monthly by DD. x

I've not changed car or house insurance but have done pet insurance several times during the IVA and had no problems at all.

TheArtist - you'll find posts on here from people who have been offered nothing at all if they've offered to move.

I change insurance each year usually, both car and home and to date have had no issues in doing so. Contents/buildings insurance is due for renewal during Feb so am currently shopping around.

Some insurance companies do. We had one of our dogs insured via Protect your Bubble last year and when the renewal came up I was told the insurance company had changed and we were required to sign a credit agreement and there would be a credit check. Needless to say I didn't remain with them - wouldn't have done anyway as the premium had doubled regardless of the fact that we hadn't made a claim but not happy at the credit check.

I had to pay up front for car ins last year and also with the home insurance. Some companies would have done monthly but it was much more expensive.

We have not been able to get car insurance on pay monthly since being in an iva and have had to pay in full each year

so with car/house insurance if we use comparison sites to find the best deals I can understand if you choose to pay monthly you would be rejected as it is credit but if you try and apply online paying in full would they still credit check you? a bit of a worry as ours are both due for renewal in the next couple of months and we always change our car insurance provider as it always increases so much :(
