Having read a few posts recently i am worrying about our new natwest account.
We opened a select account (fairly basic...no OD and no cheque book) but having read posts it seems they are making customers drop down to the proper basic acvount meaning less access to atms. This wouldnt work for us due to travel etc and hassle of finding suitable atm.
If it cropped up would it be worth speaking to bank manager and pleading case or just give in and put up with it?? Not even in IVA yet and im worrying.

I'm with Natwest and have been since before my IVA was accepted abbiesmum, not heard anything yet about my account. Like you I have the select account and I do hope they don't downgrade this. I don't want to have less access to atm's either.
Try not to worry. What about the Co-op they're IVA friendly as a back up?

Have you thought about trying the Co-op or Nationwide?

Hi there,
My account was changed over to select silver from advantage blue. They did not insist that I change to a very basic account just because I am in an IVA. I still have to pay a fee every month though of around £8 which I believe is increasing soon?!
Hope that helps but like everything else it is all very individual to your circumstances.

Cant do nationwide...one of my biggest creditors! lol!!! Reluctant to go with Coop if i can help it as nearest branch is 20 miles away. went with natwest as branch in town. Think we will just see how it pans out and see what happens in future. thank you

We opened our new main current accounts with Yorkshire bank but also opened a basic Natwest account you are limited to atms that you can use but most Tesco & Morrisons are Natwest & RBS branded so also ok to use.

I think with the Co-op basic account that you can use ATM anywhere and Post Office if you need to pay money in.

Niobe is right. I had a Co-op Cashminder until recently and I only ever went into a branch once or twice. I used the Post Office to pay in money and their telephone customer service is so good I didn't need to go into a branch.

I have nothing but praise for the Co-op account. We have not even tried to go elsewhere since our IVA ended last year. The only downside is paying in cheques via the Post Office can take 6 working days but as we don't get too many cheques it doesn't bother us!
A word about Nat West - they had a blip where they were closing accounts where they were notified of people entering DRO's and IVA's but have since realised this was incorrect and will only do this if there is a negative balance on the day you enter the agreement. So if you do find they have shut your current account, get onto them straight away.

Hi
I started an original posting about Natwest earlier this month . I joined them in Sept, a few weeks prior to IVA being accepted. Opened two Select Accounts, I've had them running successfully for 6 months . They now informed me that they're switching this to a basic account as they had been notified of my IVA! It is very annoying but I really love their App which helps keep me on track. So, it's swings and roundabouts really a I will try again in a few months to get the Select one back!!

It's unlikely that they have notified of the IVA, more likely that they are doing what HSBC and First Direct do and are trawling the Insolvency Register.
That said, at least they're not closing the accounts!

Wonder how they trawl and in what order? Alphabetically my surname is definitely before Harrimav's and I've been in an IVA for 60 months...just seems random.

it was your post harrimav i saw that first flagged it up that there might be a problem. I like their phone app too. I hope we dont get downgraded but will have to cross that bridge if and when we get to it. important thing now is to get iva in place.

No idea on that one - perhaps they do random checks on their customers?
