My son moved out of our home in September 2012 to go to uni.
He has had a couple of temporary jobs earning £50 here and there but not often enough to be self sufficient and we are still trying to support him, with food not socialising. We generally do this by traveling to him and taking him to do a big food shop from time to time.
How will this be considered for the IVA I&E?
I did put a line in my I&E for a dependent at uni, with a note of explanation.
Should I expect certain monthly expenditures to be reduced?

Hi, my daughter went to uni in September too and we help her out with a little food parcel now and then as apart from voluntary work she has been unable to source a position.

I'm not sure whether an allowance will be sanctioned for this but without asking you won't get so you've done the right thing in adding onto your I&E. If you need clarification do talk to your IP. x

If he is still a dependent then you ought to be able to claim the usual allowances for him, perhaps reduced a little in light of the income he does have coming in.

we did the same with our son, went down most weekends to take food and other bits to him, when we did a review of or I&e we put down all the extra petrol shopping etc and explain why, was all accepted BY GT, as long as you do not go OTT, you should be fine

We are waiting for our creditors' meeting for an IVA. We have 2 at university (has been worse - until our oldest son finished his 5 year medical course, we had 3 there at the same time) and have been able to give very little help. They pay for their own clothes, phone, travel, socialising etc through their student loan and overdraft (and work when they can get it), but we obviously pay for their food when they are home. As the university terms only equate to half a year it was suggested to us that we claim for half an additional adult for food, ie with 2 of them, that is one extra adult. An explanatory line has been put into the I&E to this effect.

Wow - three at university at the same time. I found it difficult keeping one there - who still has student loans 8 years after graduation!

Still feel guilty that we cannot give as much financial help as they ought to be gettimg, thanks to the financial mess we got into. Though at least they were used to making do amd doing without BEFORE they went to university, which I suppose is a useful lesson.

It is sure to make them better people debt tired - and they will value those degrees far more knowing that they contributed to earn them. You are lucky parents to have such talented children.
