Hi All

Been a while since I've been here but now a couple of years since I successfully completed my IVA.

Been well behaved, got a credit builder credit card, which I paid off in full monthly and now have a normal credit card which I do the same with. Purely to build a positive credit history. Found having credit terrifying at first but have proved I learnt my lesson and can manage my money again.

I have started to look into getting a mortgage on a shared ownership property. I have never had a mortgage before and am wondering if anyone has had success getting one after an IVA and any tips for the best way to go about it??

Hi. There have been a few ex- IVA'ers who have manged mortgages after the fact.
Have a word with our resident mortgage experts, Ryan or Shaun. You can find their contact details by clicking on "Ask a Question", top left, and scrolling down, past the info request boxes, to the experts details.

No problem.

It's good to hear that you have settled back to a normal financial life, too :-)

Good luck mortgage hunting.

Thanks, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Been having a scroll through posts in here and reminds me of how hard it was to get through and at times seemed never ending and hopeless. Can't believe how quick time has flown since it finished!

Been reading some posts re mortgages on here and will definitely be in touch with the experts on this mortgage stuff. Doesn't look like there would be too much point trying directly with my bank from what I've read :(

Dont count out asking your bank informally if they would offer any mortgages to you. Its well worth a chat with the branch manager. Is the iva still showing on your credit files?

I would still opt to have an informal chat with your branch manager who may be able to help. Failing that a local whole of market broker would be a good shout.

Fingers crossed, been to see house today, talking to finance people tomorrow, so far only asked about ccj's of which I have none on the application, if it fails going to be straight onto these guys, but so far so good. Think might be a bit easier as its shared ownership :) x

It was me who had the offer from a high street bank through a mortgage broker. The bank was one of my iva creditors so surprised they said yes and keep thinking they will change their mind but our broker has said it is a proper offer and not to worry so it is worth asking. Hope the builders broker is as helpful for you.
