I am considering bankruptcy or IVA. 1. Will my name be published in the papers for an IVA? 2. If I become bankrupt will I loose my British citizenship since I just became naturalised as a citizen of the UK a month ago?

Hi, welcome to the forum. I'm not sure of the British citizenship and do know that some bankruptcies are advertised in newspapers. There is an insolvency register and that is available to the public online. Having said that before I entered an IVA I didn't know of its existence.

My husband applied and successfully obtained his British citizenship whilst already established in an iva.

Bankruptcies are no longer advertised in the press, only on the insolvency register.

1 All bankruptcies are advertised in the London, Edinburgh and Belfast Gazettes

2 The Official Receiver/Trustee may still advertise the bankruptcy in the local press if he/she feels it is in the public interest to do so

3 All bankruptcies in Northern Ireland are still advertised in both the Belfast Gazette and local newspapers

I doubt that bankruptcy will affect your citizenship given that it has now been granted.

I think what Clare may be stating is that generally they are now no longer advertised in the local press this is since April 2009, the OR can still advertise it if local interest is to be served but it is very rare

I don't know whether they are Daniel, but my point is that this forum is accessible to anyone from within the whole UK and we must be sure to provide rounded advice which I felt Lesley had done.

The London, Edinburgh and Belfast Gazette and publications normally only 'read' by creditors etc. Bankruptcies are not generally advertised in local papers (except NI). This is what I meant.

I think that Davien meant was it advertised in the local press like they used to be and this stopped sometime ago.

I feel that sometimes, there seems to be a battle on this forum over who is giving correct advice! Those of us in the business I am sure are wanting to reach one common goal and that's to give best advice, so why do I feel that I'm trying to be tripped up!

Absolutely.

It could be Clare that the forum is becoming a closed shop, the Queen watches over her foot soldiers who in turn love their Queen perhaps after attending a few social functions, and agreeing entirely with regular posters you will also become loved.

I did say some bankruptcies as I think it was just before Christmas one was published in our local paper and I questioned this on the forum and that is when I became aware some could be.
