My employer has decided to carry out credit searches every two years using Experian. They are asking me to supply addresses for the last five years which isn't a problem but I've never informed them about my iva. Now I'm sick with worry I will lose my job.

That was always a reason not to change jobs but you wouldn't expect a current employer to go looking.... and that could scupper us for the IVA plus a further 6 years then.

Are you in a job where being in an IVA is going to be a problem?
Does your Employment contract specify that your employer will carry out credit searches, if not then you are under no obligation to supply any information. If they make do then make a credit search on current address data then they are in breach of their rights as an employer.

In the past the vetting has been every 10 years and so I thought my iva would be done and dusted by the timethe next check was due in fact I would be looking at retirement. Now the goal posts have changed

Do you have to complete a 'fit and proper' questionnaire? Many of us who work in financial institutions have to complete these on a regular basis and if you enter into a formal agreement with creditors, then this has to be declared, however it won't necessarily mean that you will lose your job. My advice is to check your contract of employment and see what it says on there.

I recently changed jobs and I was told at my second interview that it was company policy to do a credit check on new employees (I work in a finance department). I was immediately open with them about my IVA. They were actually very understanding and just wanted a little background into the circumstances and I still got offered the job.
Just be honest, so that there are no nasty surprises when they do the check.
