Hi All, I finished my IVA in Jan 2012 and received my CC in Sept 2013.
I have cleared up my credit files as I want to apply for a mortgage as a first time buyer, hopefully around March time next year. I decided to apply for a credit card that I could use for petrol and food shop each month, and then pay off at end of each month to improve my credit rating even more.

I applied with my bank, Lloyd's TSB and within seconds was shocked that they offered me a 10k limit. I guess I have learnt my lesson because after receiving the card, I rang Lloyd's TSB and asked them to reduce the limit to just £500 - because that's all I need!

Good news for posters to see there is light at the end of the tunnel and you can restart. Well done.

Good to see lloydstsb still being sensible with their lending!! (Our biggest creditor by far and the reason we went insolvent, as they kept throwing money our way rather than actually try to help us).

Hi,
Well done completing your IVA.
You will need to contact all the credit reference agencies to ensure your credit files are clear.
Once you have these all clear i am sure we would be able to help you obtain a mortgage. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss this further

Hi

Luluj beware barclaycard, they kept uping my limit (I am a grownup and it was my responsibility to monitor my spending but we ran up 10K on card when hubby made redundant) I can't understand why you would want a credit card after going through an IVA I am looking forward to being totally debt free and will never touch a credit card or loan again.

Hi Ryan, I have cleared up my credit files with the three main agencies - experian, noddle and equifax. Are there any others that you recommend I need to look into?

I will definitely be in touch re a mortgage, I have a note of your contact details from other posters on this site. I will be looking around March time when I will have a 10% deposit which I hope will be adequate and hope you will be able to help. Thanks for your reply.

Welshwiz .... Three years out of IVA ...no debts wracked up .... Been using a pre paid credit card to help improve credit rating .... Top it up each month at a cost of £5/mth ! Now IVA off record, applied for high street credit card at no monthly cost for same purpose .... Cancelled prepaid one ! Have no intention of turning back to old habits !

I had a need to prove to myself that I could control my money and so got a vanquis card. By not taking credit again ever is surely like admitting debt won!?
