Hi All

What is your take on having a flutter during an IVA?

I like a bet on the football most weeks and I am well into my IVA now (41 months). I don't bet massive amounts, Maybe £5-£10 at a weekend and if I win I'll have a little go in the week to. I do very well on my betting and normally make decent wins/profits. I sometimes bet online so small deposits will appear on my bank statements. I manage my budgets extremely well and I only have a bet if I have saved from another budget pot. I also find it a good cheap way if entertainment for myself whilst I am on strict IVA budgets.

Is this allowed? How do people view this? Does anybody else do it?

*I would like to stress that I am very in control of my finances and this does not cause me any issues.*

If you are in control and can afford it from the allowed budget then why not ?

I don't bet and £40 a month covers a weeks food for me and little Foggy ... but, no doubt, if I looked hard enough I could probably still find I squitter that sort of amount away on some fripperies.

Hi

How you spend your expenditure allowance is totally up to you

I wonder how any winnings will be dealt with ? hopefully you have the £500 windfall allowance written into your IVA

Regards

Good for you Dan, and if this is how you entertain yourself, then you deserve to as you clearly work hard, and being in an IVA is not a barrel of laughs all the time!

My father-in-law puts a bet on the GG's every day - and would move heaven and earth to get to the bookies. It is his little lifeline, and we are really pleased as it gets him out of the house and exercising. I don't think he bets more than £1 every day, however, so the chances of a big inheritance for us are minimal!!!

Winnings of course, are always covered under the windfall clauses of your proposals - and generally these days there is a £500 benchmark as Andy has highlighted.

No different to lottery tickets ... In fact you probably have a better chance of winning !

Good luck!

I enjoy a football bet myself and as the others say it is up to you how you spend your own allowances. Just make sure no win would exceed £500 as it could be lost but a series of small windfalls are yours to keep.

If it's under control as others say what you spend your money on is your business. Good luck you never know you may have that big win one day. x
