Hi, i am looking for some advice or information regarding our current situation.
My husband and I are a year in to our IVA, and we privately rent, the landlord was a family friend so no deposit or checks done when we moved in (this was pre IVA).
He now wants to sell the house, and it is currently on the market, and we have viewings tomorrow.
He wants to sell to someone who wants tenants, and hopefully allow us to stay, but we know this may not be possible. If the buyer doesn't want us, the landlord and estate agents have said we can have the necessary form and paperwork to approach the local council to apply for housing because of us being made homeless.
My question is, because we cannot afford or pass credit checks to obtain another private rental, will our IVA go against us with council housing?
Obviously council housing will make our rent more affordable (i know the iva may increase in this case),but will it go against us?
Any experiences or info would be appreciated xx

Hi. I moved from a private let to council housing during my IVA and the question never came up. The only thing they seem to worry about is rent or council tax arrears.

Speak to your local council because this could put you up the housing ladder. Most advice agencies such as the CAB have specialist housing advisors who will be able to help too.

Don't assume that you won't get another private let. Many of my own clients have managed to whilst in their IVAs, with little difficulty.
