Hi All,
My husband lost his job 3 months ago, we contacted GT at the time who advised us to get in touch if we couldn't pay. We have struggled to pay since March so contacted them at the beginning of June to ask for help in the form of a break, they have emailed for confirmation of p45 & bank statement to show lack of wages, which we sent.

Our payment is due today so will go out of the bank on monday and we have had no decision from them as to whether they will grant a payment break.

My husband rang GT yesterday and their response was 'we are still waiting for a decision to be made and we usually need 10 days notice to authorise this. When it was pointed out he had been given much more than 10 days, the response was 'well all you can do is check your bank on monday to see if the payment has been processed'.

My husband starts his new job on 7 july but doesn't get paid until the end of the month so if GT take the payment we are left with £39 for food, school dinners and petrol to get us both to work for at least 3 weeks as his jsa stops. Can I stop the direct debit myself?

I am worried sick, my family have been great giving us food parcels when they can but we can't live on £39 for 3 weeks. Any advice would be great.

Have you asked the job centre if there is any help I.e. grants loans to cover the month in hand surely they can't expect people to live for month without an income good luck

He has a meeting with them on Tuesday but they said he will probably only be able to have the equivalent to a weeks bus pass for petrol but no loan just doesn't seem right and GT havebeen no help x

Before he starts his job ask him to see his work coach at jobcentre for fares to his new job for the first four weeks ... not guaranteed and they may only offer two weeks but better than none ... there is a discretionary fund available but offices have to manage this so they look at each case on its own merits. Petrol expenses are 25p a mile normally but payments are based on cheapest method possible.

How can you be expected to live on such a small amount for three weeks? The same thing happened to us when my husband changed jobs and we were able to miss one months payment because of the shortfall, our payment was by standing order so we just amended it to zero for that month only. You could cancel the direct debit for that month only then reinstate it and that means that you pay an additional month at the end or have to make up the short fall over the next few months, that has to be easier than living on £39 for three weeks, they can't fail the iva for one missed payment x

GT need to give yo an answer and if they don't I would amend the s/o or dd myself you can't be expected to live like that and the very unhelpful answer of wait and see for Monday to come isn't helpful at all...

You should have cancelled the payment to GT before it went out and told them what you had done. Firstly as the others have said the IVAs will not be failed for one missed payment but also loss of a job usually means an automatic break while you search for new employment.

If the payment has gone out ask GT to send it back as your family is far more important than the IVA.
