Hi I am in an iva and have been for a year now and need to arrange insurance for my car. However I understand that insurance company's carry out a credit check. How will I get my insurance when they see my credit rating, as no insurance means no car and no work so no money for the iva!

Many of us (all the car drivers) have had little or no problem with car insurance. Simply shop around. I was with Direct Line throughout my IVA and paid monthly with no issues.

I too paid monthly throughout the duration of my IVA and never had a problem gaining car insurance and used the comparison websites yearly.

I got a brand new policy through Swinton.

I was worried because it's technically credit where you're financing the policy.

But despite the IVA it went through fine. I've since renewed with them and moved to a different insurer - through Swinton.

Each time, never a problem.

I was with Elephant before that. Never had any problems.

Good luck!

On this subject, although i have not had any issues getting insurance car or house during IVA, I just went on confused.com to get quotes on house insurance and a drop down box for bankrupcy/ iva appeared, however it didnt seem to seperate the 2 things? Anyone else encountered this? I actually stayed with the Co-op because it seemed too much hassle to try and explain the difference between the 2? It let me tick iva but then seemed to lump it togerher with bankrupcy

A lot of institutions do this, including banks, who ought to know better.

My experience is that an application made through a comparison website can often be rejected ("Computer says No" ) whilst a follow up call direct to the company will get an acceptance and sometimes a discount.

It was for buildings/contents insurance not sure if it appears for car insurance too? just a blinking pain really and it makes me feel like an outcast! can't recall it on the other comparison websites

No problems with either car or house/contents insurance. With Direct line for car and More Than for house and pay monthly on both. Different company to who we were with before the start of IVA and not had problems. The only company that wouldn't offer me monthly payments were Hastings but offered my partner them! We are both in an IVA

Always paid monthly when in my iva, used comparison website.then would phone the company up with the best quote, (which is not always the lowest price) to see if it was any better.
