First time I`ve come across this myself but I`m due to renew my home building and contents insurance.

On filling in my details on Confused.com there is the question asking whether anyone in the house has ever been bankrupt, had a ccj or been in an IVA.

I intend to pay the premium in full and not monthly, but I assume I still have to declare my IVA?

I guess this will also mean a higher price for my premium.

Once anyone in this situation declares that they`ve ever had an IVA, etc... it will always be on the insurance database for ever, even when the person`s insolvency is long gone.

Surely that`s not fair.

If you are asked if you have ever been in an IVA then you have to answer yes - if not then you could find the insurance null and void if you need to claim.

I agree it's not fair.

Try contacting companies individually rather than a comparison site. It might be different.

I noticed that last year and when I went further the only option was bankruptcy! I do not understand why it only asks for your house insurance and not car? I didn't bother and found insurance direct pretty cheap. I don't think money supermarket asked but could be wrong

Indeed, I don`t understand that too recovering.

I have been on another comparison site for quotes and they just ask `has anyone in the house ever been declared bankrupt`.

Well the answer to that is NO isn`t it?

An IVA is not Bankruptcy.

We were told by nfu mutual we were a higher risk of fraudulent claims!!

They were told to bolt.

Shop around.

If it is bankruptcy then you can truthfully answer no.

We have stuck with the same company throughout the IVA, before and after. Mainly because we have no excess on the contents insurance!!

thing was the first bit said iva or bankruptcy so I ticked the box and the net bit asked for bankruptcy details??? the two things are not the same! I just stuck with the co-op it does irritate me though they are insinuating dishonesty .Out of order
