So,it's the eve of our 6th year anniversary. A payment tomorrow then the last one on 18 November ( in lieu of a larger car payment earlier in the year). Can't believe we are almost there! We entered the 6th year due to equity in the house, we have had ups and downs. Looking forward to Christmas and hopefully not having to say no as much to the children!
I have to say going into the IVA was the best decision we made, things have been tight at times. We have managed to bring up two young children and even got married (very cheaply!). Life doesn't have to stop or be put on hold, you just have to be savvy.
We have never failed to meet our payments and always accepted the increases in contributions due to wages changes. (We have gone from £180 a month to £422 a month). This has always been our debt to sort out and feel quite good that we have come so far. I will be interested to see what our final dividend is. As a matter of interest,do things start to improve credit file wise after tomorrow or the last payment in November?
Thanks

Great post bringing hope to others who feel the iva is dragging them down. It doesn't have to ...enjoy your new debt free lives and have a fantastic Christmas xx

Well done !

Credit files will start to repair just after the 6th anniversary when the correctly dated defaults will start to fall off. The real jump in your score, though, will happen when the IVA itself is removed. This won't happen until you have your completion certificate and have been removed from the Insolvency Register, so could be a few months yet.

Have a read here:

More importantly for now, enjoy a debt free Christmas :-)

Thanks for your replies. Feeling a bit strange about it all at the moment! Don't think I will settle until we have CC in hand. Hope you don't have to wait much longer Watzki.

Congratulations from me too and enjoy that extra money. The timing is great for you too and with a bit of luck your certificate will not be delayed and by January you will be debt free with a clear credit file.

Well done you're almost there!

You need to get your CC first.

You might find this quick video I made about cleaning up your credit record useful:

Noddle and Clearscore are also free credit agencies to consider using:
