I was dealing with stepchange after few days received a cold call from horizon consultants.
I understood that the two were linked or working together but after speaking to my partner I have now doubts.
I have emailed them copies of payslips driving licences proof of address
Basically my whole life.
Can someone please reassure me they are not a scam? I can’t find anything at all online
Please help me I’m feeling overly anxious quite depressed atm

I would speak to Stepchange and query it. Did you have a phone number for them?

Stepchange should be able to tell you if they have referred you to anyone. Take a deep breath and look at some other companies and try again. Change your bank account to something like a basic Co-op one for a start and transfer DD’s etc across to that.

I don't know of them but I Googled the number and it came up with Horizon's website:
http://hcdirect.org/
The email addresses matches too.
Have you called them to confirm receipt of your documents and ask for an update?
The Company is registered at Companies House, directed by Aziza Writer:

Stepchange have a history of passing out referrals to other firms without notice --- they should at least be able to confirm whether they have done this.

I will point out that an IVA is not backed by the
Government.

HI all thank you so so much for all your information and help
I called stepchange back
yes It was them who passed my information to the company.
Apparently the company cant help me because my biggest loan is with a credit union.
Can I ask a question here or should I start another post?
I am now dealing with a different company who said that IVA would be difficult for me to go ahead with because of the credit union however I was offered a DMP..
I have spoken to my credit union who dosent want to accept the DMP also spoken to the head of the company I am working for and I was told I have no power to stop my money to be taken out my salary.
Can they actually do that?
I am not refusing to pay I just need to go on a DMP
Thank you

Credit Unions tend to refuse IVA's and, if they are the majority creditor, can often swing the vote to a rejection. If they are granted an attachment of earnings your employer must comply and deduct the debt at source.
It is possible that you can still do a DMP yourself with the CU being given a bigger slice of the cake --- this may, or may not, be accepted by the other creditors if the situation is explained to them.

Credit Unions loan money to others based on what their members save with them.
They therefore have an obligation to essentially recoup what are the savings of other members.
The Credit Union has the legal ability to take whatever action it believes it is appropriate to protect those members interests.
The hard approach is being taken by them as a lot have gone bust over the years.
