Will my ex partners IVA affect me getting a mortgage?

hello. My ex partner entered into an IVA which also included our joint account and this is now affecting my credit score. I want to buy a house next year. I am paying off the overdraft on our joint account so I can close it but I need to know if I close it will my name be removed as association from the IVA? I am very concerned about this.

Speak to the lender and see how they are treating the account -- have they removed him from the agreement ? If so, and that debt is now in your name only, you can dissassociate yourself by writing to the credit reference agency through their website and have reference to him removed from your files.

Agree with Foggy. Best to get a credit report for yourself as well to see what, if anything, is showing on there. We'd be happy to take a look at it for you.

Hi Emily,
As you say the IVA is in his name, lenders will look at your credit profile from your credit report and then decide if they should lend to you.
I recommend Check My File initially as they have all three agencies that a lender would use so it is a good place to start to get an overview of your credit history. It maybe that once a lender has been found, you get copies of your credit file directly from the agency the lender uses to make absolutely sure your credit history is OK for that particular lender.
And closing the account will look good from a lenders perspective but it your credit history that is important.
