We’d love your views on the Individual Insolvency Register

As you know, people who start an IVA or other insolvency solution in England and Wales are listed on the Individual Insolvency Register, which is a publicly available and searchable website. (There’s a Scottish equivalent called the Register of Insolvencies).

We’d love your views on the public register – how does it make you feel? Please complete our short, anonymous, survey here https://www.research.net/r/IIRpublicviews

We are campaigning for the public register to be abolished and replaced with a private register. This would be accessible only by those with a legitimate need to access it. You can read a bit more about this here https://www.financialwellnessgroup.co.u ... r-private/

We'd love your thoughts and feedback!

Thank you.

Ian

Hi Ian,
I completely agree with you ! There is also the aspect of potential domestic abuse issues when the possibility of an abused ex partner's address being published can lead to that person being traced by an abuser ! Fortunately not many of the general public know this register exists, but one case of abuse is one too many. The details on the register should be on a verifiable "need to know" basis.

I believe that if domestic abuse is involved then details that can identify the abused won't be published on the register. They do the same with celebrities as well. I presume you have to request it.

Yes, I believe this is the case, but so many don't even know they will be on the register so cannot, or do not, ask for such information to be excluded.

One can only hope that the abuser doesn't know about it either.

We have tried a few times to have it made private but with no success.
