It depends on the amount and your conscience .

Agree with Foggy - under £500 and it will be yours, other than that it has to be declared.

Is mum aware of iva? Rather than give you cash could she perhaps instead put the money aside for you in case of emergencies?

How strange - I posted twice on this thread yesterday and both have disappeared.

My advice was the same as plasticity... get mum to buy the items for you if there was a specific reason for gifting the money, or if not let her save it for you for emergencies ....
