hi guys
just arrived home from work to a letter off rma(debt collection agency) saying they are going to call between the hours of 8am and 9 pm on friday, my first day off in 12, dont know what to think, are they just trying to scare me or will they call, what should i do if they do, do i give them a payment or do i stick to my guns and explain i am in the proccess of an iva , even though i have already written to them twice. [:(] [:(]

It's usually just a scare tactic. They don't usually call, but just in case they do pretend you are not in!

Don't answer the door !!!! Are you in an IVA already - if so speak with your IP and get them to resolve the issue for you.

not in an iva yet ,going through the proccess. fingers crossed should have our creditors meeting in next couple of weeks. [:(]

I would explain politely that you are in the process of setting up an IVA. Remember, this is a debt collector not a bailiff.
Give them the name and telephone number of the IP acting on your behalf if you have to but DONT pay them anything.

They will almost certainly not call,if they do pay them nothing.They have no rights of entry etc so just be polite but firm

Abby, don't worry, as everyone has said they probably won't call and if they do, as soon as they know you are in the process of an IVA, they will just note it down and leave. You'll be ok. X

Just don't get drawn into any conversations with them other than to tell them about your IVA.

Once you've done that, then close the door. I doubt if they will call though, I've had threats off them before and they never turned up.

Or, do as has also been suggested - don't answer the door!!!

This company have been chasing me for two months now and I refuse to speak to them since the company they are so say representing(MBNA) have never written to me to tell me they have authorised them to call on their behalf.
I too received a letter telling me they were going to call on friday. They did not call but my phone was silent for three days whilst I waited.
On the monday after the friday, I called them and asked for their company credit card number since I had supposedly taken the day off work to wait for them. This was needed to compensate me for not going to work. They did of course refuse, but i was told that the postcard says they were going to "call" which meant telephone not physically visit. I hope this clears this up for everyone and just ignore them and their underhand tactics.

I had a postcard stating someone was going to call, I didnt think they would actually visit but I couldnt rest all day, I was scared. In the end I decided to write my actions down and if anyone did call I would open the door, hand them the note and then close it. I had written a reply to every letter, they were well informed of my intentions. I had also refused to speak with them verbally as they were rude and didnt listen, so it was a waste of time.

I got one of those cards too. I did have one missed call from a 'withheld' number so I assume it was them.

I agree with Stirling. MBNA never informed me that they were passing my details on. I got a nice letter from them saying they understand my situation and they will work with me and a few days later I got a letter from RMA.
