I just started the IVA process last week, so i have some weeks to go before the creditor meeting is set. As i'm about 1-2 months behind with my unsec/loans and credit cards, will just telling these companies about me starting an IVA be enough to stop then starting court proceedings? Is it best just to leave them to do what they want to do or try and reason it out with them? My IVA company Vincent Bond said i was to tell anyone who phoned or wrote to contact them, but none of the creditors want to know! Any ideas?

They don't want to know as they want money out of you directly. Follow the advice of your provider and let the creditors decide what course of action they wish to take for themselves. Not a lot you can do at this stage I'm afraid other than not buckle under the pressure, you should console yourself in the knowledge that you are at least taking steps to resolve the situation.

Unfortunately nothing you say to your creditors will stop them calling and pressuring you for payments. You can advise them to contact Vincent Bond until yo are blue in the face and they will still call you.

You need to remain strong and not give into pressure, you could ask them to correspond with you only in writing but I am not sure if this works.

if it gets too much, just don't answer as it can be so stressful and goes on all hours of the day.

You should feel at ease knowing that you have made moves to start sorting out your debt problems. Ignoring your creditors isnt always easy,my tactic was to accept the calls but merely point out that you are having an IVA proposed and cannot make any payment(no matter what they threaten or promise you). Stick to your guns and dont pay them a penny now that you have opted to go for an IVA!!

Hi, when I was in the process of going through my IVA I ignored ALL the creditors calls and shredded the letters! I turned the answerphone off my mobile so they couldn't leave any messages.

I know it's really hard but just ignore them. Try not to get stressed over it, although I know it's hard.

the first stages of entering an iva are probably the most horrid you seem to be inundated with phone calls, you feel like a parrot repeating and repeating the same thing over and you feel like you are going insane, they will tell you all sorts to get money out of you just stick to your guns and keep referring them to your ip, good luck hope it all goes well for you.

just keep repeating you are going for an iva, give them details of your i/p do not give them any money. dont answer phone when you feeling down. got me through since may/june an i got approved this week

I used to ignore the calls, but always answered the letters. I wrote and told them that I would only deal with them via the post, and would not be speaking to them at all.

They will bully you by letter as well, but just don't give in to them. The people in the call centres will be on commission and it is in their best interests to get as much money from you as they can.

Don't let them get to you.

I figured that I would answer those so they knew I was doing something. I was always offering a token amount, and they always refused it so it was a viscous circle. Didn't matter in the end though!

i always declined requests for token payments

I don't think it makes any difference whether you do them or not. We both got the result we wanted in the end.

Should be a good celebration on the 15th!
