I finally got my Completion Certificate through yesterday from Payplan after making my final payment in September last year...
HUGE relief
Does anyone have any links to advice on how best to rebuild my credit rating now? Me and my girlfriend really want to apply for a mortgage in a year or two but at the moment I get turned down for any credit I apply for.
I just managed to get my first mobile phone contract in my own name in 6 years by paying O2 £250 security deposit up front, I'm hoping having the monthly payments going out will help to rebuild my credit rating somewhat
I was told by a few people to apply for one of those 39% apr credit cards and use it to fill my car up every month and pay it all off as soon as the statement comes so I never receive any interest, but again I got refused. Is it just too soon?

Have you got a copy of your credit file from Experian, Equifax and Call Credit (Noddle)? The first thing to do is to check all of the default dates etc are correct and to also make sure that the IVA record is correct. If it's been 6 years or more, then it should be removed. Be warned, Equifax have a habit of moving the IVA record to a notice of correction and this will just stay there unless you arrange for it to be removed. If any of the dates are incorrect, then you will need to arrange to have this corrected by the lender.

Well done on receiving that all important piece of paper.
Your IVA will stay on your credit file for 6 months from date of acceptance. To begin those ticks a Vanquis card or similar can help as will a mobile contract. After the 6 years are up do check all 3 Credit reference agencies to ensure things are getting tidied up in respect of the IVA

Hrmm it would seem all is not brilliant
I've been signed up on experian for a while - they don't show any of my old debts and give me an 834 credit score
But I've signed up today with equifax and 2 of my old debts that were part of the IVA are showing as defaulted rather than settled
I tried to sign up with callcredit/noddle but it won't let me sign up at all - just keeps saying I've failed ID checks, which is frustrating
What do I do now about this incorrect information? Do I send a copy of my completion certificate and a covering letter explaining that those 2 debts have been settled?
Thanks

Yes, you can do this 2 ways. The quickest way is to contact the creditors concerned and request that they put right the incorrect information or you can raise a query with Equifax. If you do it through Equifax, it may take a little while longer - they have up to 28 days to respond to you.

Looks like this will be fun - Apex have no phone number or any details of how to contact them on their site (
http://www.apexcm.co.uk)
and 'Max Recovery' don't seem to exist any more
It's weird because my original debt with the people I took the cards out with is marked as settled - but the portion of it sold to these debt recovery firms isn't. Weird

I would send a letter to the creditor along with a copy of your completion certificate asking them to remove any defaults after the start of your IVA and mark the accounts settled or partially settled ( which most do if they havent had 100 percent of the debt back in dividends ) Make sure they put the balance at zero. This is far quicker than contacting the CRA as they will normally ask you to contact the creditor directly unless you kick up a fuss best of luck Rich
