I wanted to put this post on here to encourage others and confirm there is light at the end of the tunnel when applying for for a mortgage post IVA.

I entered an IVA in 2007. Payed the IVA off 3 years early in 2010. Worked on repairing my credit rating for 3/4 years.

I have just recently completed on a house purchase of £225,000 with a £22,500 deposit.

I just want to thank Ryan and he's team at Zebra mortgages who made this possible. They have been supportive and understanding the whole way through this processes. No other bank or broker would even entertain the idea of lending to someone in my position. I was made to feel like a criminal. Ryan however never judged me or my situation. I can not recommend Zebra mortgages enough. They quite simply have change my life.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Paul

Excellent post Paul.

Gives us all hope that there is light at the end of the IVA tunnel.

Lots of 'normal' people are unable to secure mortgages with a 10% deposit, let alone ex-IVA customers, so fair play to Ryan.

I have been in a Debt Arrangement Scheme (DAS) in Scotland which will be completed in December. Can anyone give any advice as to how I can try and repair my credit file as my ultimate aim will be to obtain a new mortgage. Also, how long should I wait before even attempting to apply for a mortgage?

Many thanks

Yes just last Summer I applied, and was accepted, for a mortgage with the Nationwide. They Did not ask about IVA, just have you ever been bankrupt, to which I said no. Got a high street rate fixed for 4 years too on their flexclusives :-)

Advise I will give, you need to save up for a decent deposit. The Iva wiped from your file completely along with all other records such as defaults. Build up your file whilst saving by getting a credit card and paying it off in full each month.

There is light at the end of the tunnel, it took me 9 long years to get there, but worth it in the end to finally get on the housing ladder.

Great to hear of your mortgage success ..paying a little extra for a couple of years really doesn't matter when you have been in an iva ... getting the foot back on the ladder is the most important bit!

That's exactly the figures I'm looking to have as a deposit and mortgage, I won't be 6 years clear till January so a little more time to wait.... Did you end up with a big interest rate or was it a standard high street rate?

This is really great to hear! My iva was due to finish next June but think it'll be extended for another yr. I can't wait til it finishes! And I'll be straight on the phone to Ryan then with regards a mortgage!
